"Cross" is
a novel by the author James Patterson. It is a crime thriller
starring Tyler Perry as Dr. Alex Cross, a psychiatrist and police
lieutenant who lives in Detroit with his wife, Maria (Carmen Ejogo).
They have two children, Damon and Janelle and live altogether
with their grandmother, (Cicely Tyson).
When Cross learns that
his wife is pregnant, he considers a job in the FBI which means
a move to Washington D.C., but is hesitant to bring it up to his
wife as he is afraid of her reaction.
Meanwhile, Picasso,
as he is called, (Matthew Fox) flirts with a woman and she takes
him to her bedroom and he sedates her, tortures her and ultimately
kills her. The Police Captain, Richard Brookwell (John C. McGinley)
calls Cross and his partner, Tommy Kane (Ed Burns) to the crime
scene. Cross and Kane figures out that Picasso is a professional
assassin and has other people on his hit list, so they must stop
him NOW.
The film was shot in
Cleveland and Akron, Ohio as well as Detroit, Michigan. I recognize
the scenes from Detroit such as the Compuware Building, Detroit
Police Department Central Division and the Michigan Theatre garage.
After Picasso kills
Cross' wife, its time for justice. He goes after Picasso with
a vengeance.
Rob Cohen directed
this movie while Marc Moss and Kerry Williamson wrote the screenplay
adaptation. Steve Bosci, Remington Chase, George Furla, Stepan
Martirosyan, Jeff Rice and Ethan Smith served as executive producers
of the film. Additional scenes were shot in Bali, Indonesia and
Akron, Ohio.
Lots of violence and
action in this movie. However, I thought it was relatively worthwhile.
