The
bar at Ashley's Restaurant & Pub
This restaurant
is located on State Street near the State Theatre on the University
of Michigan campus.
I ordered the lunch
special which included a half of a turkey pita with soup and
drink for $4.99.
The bay chowder
soup was very good and creamy with lots of vegetables and
clams. It was very tasty. The turkey pita was a cold sandwich
with shavings of smoked turkey and vegetables. The pita was
a little dry for my taste.
My other two guests
had the cheeseburger lunch special with seasoned fries and
drink for $5.99. That looked and tasted good.
The restaurant
serves quite a variety of sandwiches and burgers along with
about 60 varieties of beers. Although we didn't have a beer,
the patrons boast about the variety of beers. There is a bigger
beer menu than there is the food menu.
The atmosphere
was quaint and dark with dark wood walls. It's a very small
place, has a bar with barstools and the bathrooms are in the
basement. Lots of college students still in the area even
over the Christmas break.
The service was
slow, I had to ask twice for my soup and drink and at the
end for the bill. The prices were good in comparison to other
Pubs.
My recommendation
is that if you like beer, this place is for you. The food
is good but not great.
