HEIGHTS, Hawaii -- 'A-Frame' is surfer slang for a wave
in which at its peak, two surfers can ride at the same time. Over
the last nine years, Brian Kohne has pulled together Hawaiian
musicians entertainers and talented performers to make a difference
on Maui. He is the 'A-Frame' wave for Island filmmaking. He has
tried to inspire a local cinema and post production industry.
Hopefully, it is easier now for artists, musicians, and crew members
to work together and collaborate with mainland filmmakers. With
some full featured projects being planned in Hawaii there is great
progress to show. Currently, Kohne is in pre-development with
KULEANA, a thriller set in the 70's.
His partnering with Stefan Schaefer has both astounded and amazed
the industry. Maui is now on the global film map as showcased
by the German productions already planned for next summer. The
recent awards in New York at the Kingston Film Festival bestowed
on GET A JOB for their successful soundtrack further
brands Kohne as an Island film resource. GET A JOB was
his first full featured film as a director and the comedy was
well recieved beyond all expectations. It was masterful how he
brought out Island musicians Willie K and Eric Gilliom to giant
new platforms. Kohne is also being sought out as an industry expert
on bringing to market micro-budgeted productions. He has shown
he can bring the finished product to market. http://www.getajobmovie.com/
A script is nearly ready for KULEANA and it is exciting.
This movie will inspire and awaken thoughtful insight in the Hawaiian
and Pacific cultural community. KULEANA is currently
in an Indie GOGO fund-raising campaign. The concept of crowd funding
is new to most but it is simply a new way to support the arts
