Carl's Chop House Restaurant

Carl's
Chop House is a nationally-known steakhouse in downtown Detroit.
Carl's Chop House
is located on Grand River across the street from Motor
City Casino. You can't miss it since there is a huge black
cow on top of
the sign.
The restaurant
was built in 1920. The atmosphere at Carl's Chop House was
like you are inside a time capsule. It had dark wood decor
with red velvet, kinda like the 1950's. They also played music
that was from the 30's & 40's. It had a dance floor and
a grand piano in the center of the place.
As you enter the
restaurant, there are pictures from the 1920's or 1930's
and also from the 1950's. Also displayed were the awards they
received
for Best Restaurant.
The food was a
little pricey, however you get a lot of food there for your
money. They start with a relish tray. Then comes the soup
and salad
which was excellent, by the way. Then the main entree was
huge. So much
that we had to take half of it home.
Prices range from
$18.00 for broiled rainbow trout to $31.95 for an Angus Beef
Steak. They also had a lobster tank with the largest lobsters
I have ever seen. They were listed on the menu as "Market
price."
When we were escorted
to our table, the waiter placed our linen napkin on
our laps. The service was superb. He catered to our every
need and was
friendly and efficient.
If you want to
reminice about the old days or imagine what it was like
back in the day, this place is for you.
