Carney's Restaurant is one of the hidden gems in southern California.

STUDIO CITY, Calif. -- Carney's is one of the coolest places to eat in southern California. You get to hop on board an old fashioned passenger car. The Studio City location has a passenger car and a caboose while the West Hollywood location has just a passenger car. The prices are great and the food is awesome. I would recommend everyone to try it.

"The Big Yellow Train" as it is called is best known for its chili burgers and hot dogs. They offer regular sized hamburgers, double cheeseburgers and half-pound cheeseburgers. There are four types of hot dogs: the Original Carney's (chili, mustard, tomato and onion), the New Yorker, The Chicagoan and the Red Baron.

Ordering at the restaurant is like going to Subway. You tell them what you want, what toppings you would like, then you pay and it is prepared. You can sit anywhere on the train since it is cafeteria-style. The service was amazingly fast! As soon as I placed my order, the food was ready by the time I opened my wallet.

I ordered the Chicagoan, which comes with mustard, relish and onions. I think it was one of the best hot dogs that I've ever had. The price was only $2.75, making it much cheaper than most other restaurants. You can add Cheddar Jack cheese for only 43 cents, slaw for $1.25 or purchase a 10 oz. cup of slaw for $2.

Carney's also serves sandwiches, salads, french fries, spicy Polish dogs and desserts. Pepsi soft drinks are available along with iced tea and lemonade. Ice cream shakes, beer and wine are available only at the West Hollywood Carney's.

Dinners are only available at the Sunset Strip location and consist of Chicken Parmesan, Pasta Marinara and The Derailer (a bed of pasta smothered in chili). Those meals come with a salad and a garlic roll.

Delivery is offered until 4:30 p.m. with an $8 minimum order. Service is fast and the prices are reasonable. What more can you ask for?

For those who would like to continue their day with more trains, I'd encourage you to visit Travel Town. It is a transportation museum with dozens of steam locomotives and other rolling stock on display. Admission and parking are free. Travel Town is only a 15-minute drive from Carney's. It is located at 5200 Zoo Drive in Los Angeles.

I would highly recommend Carney's to everyone. It is great for kids, but is also a great place for adults. The Studio City location is often more busy than the West Hollywood one. Carney's is a perfect place to take your date and it is also great to spot celebrities.

OVERALL RATING: A+
