Friday, 16 December, 2011 0:39 AM Claddagh Irish Pub and Restaurant unveils a new winter menu 17800 Haggerty Road, Livonia, Mich. 48152
Claddagh Irish Pub and Restaurant is hearty, simple and comforting, as they say. We had a chance to visit the location at College Park in Livonia, Mich. There are several themed rooms in this Pub. One is the cottage room with a roaring fireplace, another is the Gothic Room, and the John Powers Room. Claddagh has a gaelic origin "An Cladach," which means "stoney beach." It is an Irish-owned restaurant, not an American Restaurant with Irish food. Me and my husband were there to be introduced to the new winter menu. We started out with a pumpkin martini and Bell's Amber beer made in Kalamazoo, Mich. Then came the appetizers. Yuengling battered shrimp, deep fried shrimp tossed in a sweet chili sauce, also stuffed mushroom caps, and skewers of goat cheese and tomatoes, and rustic bread with homemade marinara sauce. The entrees included chicken pot pie, slow cooked short ribs stewed in rich tomato, red wine, garlic, fresh rosemary and root vegetable sauce, served over mashed potatoes, and yuengling shrimp. The Pub was lively and loud. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. It was quite packed with people for a Thursday night. I can't imagine what it's like on a Friday or Saturday. Dessert was hot fudge cream puff filled with cream, chocolate wafer, (like our brownies) and an apple dessert, similar to an apple pie. The menu prices for appetizers are from $6.99 for the stuffed mushrooms to the Irish battered shrimp at $8.99. The entrees start at $9.99 for the Mac and Cheese, Irish classics such as corned beef and cabbage for $13.99, Slow cooked beef short ribs for $14.99, shepherds pie for $13.99, Fish and chips, which are fresh cod dipped in bass ale batter served with pub chips, cole slaw and tartar sauce. for $13.99. They have a full Irish breakfast, which consists of irish rasher, bangers, black and white pudding, tomato and two eggs cooked to order, served with Claddagh bread for $9.99. Other Claddagh classics include chicken kildare, which is garlic crusted chicken stuffed with sauteed spinach, mushrooms and irish masher, served with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables for $14.99. Also sirloin steak and fries for $17.99 and mushroom ravioli for $13.99, among others. The lunch menu begins at $5.99, which includes Chicken tender basket, smoked turkey sandwich, chicken caesar wrap to the Philly steak sandwich for $7.99 and the bbq chicken flatbread for $7.99. Come stay, relax and end your meal with a hot Irish coffee. You'll be glad you did. OVERALL RATING: A For more information, visit www.claddaghirishpubs.com. To view a copy of the menu, click here.
