"The Devil Wears Prada"
Comedy, Drama.
PG-13.
Meryl Streep and Anne
Hathaway star in this new comedy film, based in New York called
"The Devil Wears Prada." The movie is about a fashion
magazine and everything that goes on behind the scenes. Also starring
in this film is Stanley Tucci, Emily Blunt and Adrian Grenier.
Anne Hathaway plays the
character of Andy, a potential job candidate for the New York City
fashion magazine Runway. Andy has attended Northwestern University
and is a very smart girl. She comes in to be interviewed by the
editor-in-chief herself, Miranda (played by Meryl Streep).
Miranda looks at Andy
and wonders if she is serious about fashion. Previous to the interview,
Andy never knew anything about the magazine or Miranda herself.
Miranda is a very expensive woman. She wants everything her way.
She decided to give Andy a chance at being her second assistant.
Miranda has two assistants
-- Emily and Andy. Emily has held the position for about a year
now. She is a snotty, gothic-type of a girl. She is mean spirited
and usually doesn't say nice things to Andy. Andy's main responsibility
is to get coffee and answer the phones for Miranda.
Andy has a boyfriend.
She has lots of friends that she normally hangs out with in the
evening at bars or clubs. With this new job at the fashion magazine,
she has been spending less time with her friends and boyfriend.
Her social life is diminishing. She has to make a decision on whether
to keep working for Runway or to quit and be with her friends more.
Each morning, when Miranda
enters the building, she would drop her purse and coat right on
top of Andy's desk. I think it was rude. Why not just hand it to
her? Even when you try to make Miranda happy, she just keeps asking
for more. She would always ask for coffee, steaks and other things.
Miranda is about to go
to a fashion show in Paris. She decided to bring both assistants
with her, Emily and Andy. She uses them to help her remember the
names of the guests that are attending. While in Paris, Miranda
hosted a special conference. She announced that the magazine Runway
was going to merge with another company to become more global. Miranda
chose her replacement, another lady who will become the new Editor-in-Chief.
Miranda was considered
to be the "Queen of the Fashion Industry." Different fashion
labels would show her their new clothing. She would either nod if
it was good or give a smirk to show that it's horrible. She was
the only one that mattered. Her decision meant the green light or
the red light.
Anne starts to act a
lot like Miranda. She gets the quality of being stuck up and rich.
Then, Anne's boyfriend decides to split up with her. Anne looks
to her inner self and asks the question "is this really who
I want to be?" Upon some consideration, she says no and quits
the job at the Runway magazine. A new assistant is hired days later
and has to fill some BIG shoes.
I'm not going to tell
you the ending. It is definitely not what I expected to happen.
I highly recommend that you go see this movie. You will see lots
of New York City's sights and sounds. Coming from someone that just
visited New York, I absolutely LOVED this movie! Go see it...
