DETROIT -- The heat is back on for Eddie Murphy, who's set to reprise his role as wisecracking police detective Axel Foley in a new "Beverly Hills Cop" installment that will be shot in Detroit.

Co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the original "Beverly Hills Cop" made Murphy a box office superstar when it was released in 1984 -- spawning 1987's "Beverly Hills Cop II" and 1994's "Beverly Hills Cop III." There were plans to bring "Beverly Hills Cop" on the small screen as a weekly television series focusing on Foley's son investigating crimes that involve the rich and powerful, but the pilot was never picked up.

Already approved by the Michigan Film Office for incentive, this next chapter in the "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise finds Axel Foley returning to Detroit on 'the coldest winter on record', where he comes face-to-face with enemies from his past while also learning how to play the game in what was once -- and still is -- the Motor City, a city that is now become one of the breeding grounds for crime, corruption, and politics.

The film is set for release sometime in March 2016.
