Are you ready for the 23rd Annual Downtown Hoedown?? Saddle up for three days of fun, music and dancing. Detroit's biggest party on the riverfront is just one week away!!
AmericaJR.com will be Broadcasting LIVE in the center of all the action. We will be there taking pictures, meeting the stars, going backstage and experiencing the Downtown Hoedown at it's best. Read our Press Release.
This year's hoedown includes one of the biggest lineups ever. There are three powerful headliners: Jo Dee Messina, Gary Allan and Chris Cagle. There are many new acts as well as other established artists coming.
Some of the new artists to take the Hoedown stage include Cowboy Troy, Hanna and McEuen, Hot Apple Pie and Miranda Lambert. There is also Blue County, Rebecca Lynn Howard, The Kentucky Headhunters, Mark Chesnutt, Julie Roberts, Tracy Lawrence, Aaron Lines, Blaine Larson and Bret Michaels.
There is a limited amount of local acts this year. Many of them performed two weeks ago for the Motor City Music Festival in Detroit. It may be the reason why only three local bands are coming. Sarah Lenore, The Hummingbirds and Devil Scillian are scheduled. Yes, that's right Devin Scillian from LOCAL 4 has a country band.
Poison group member Bret Michaels will be performing at the Hoedown for the first time. He has a new country album coming out. The first release is called "Open Road." He debuted it last month on The Nashville Star, where he was one of the judges.
I remember the last time Chris Cagle was at the hoedown. It was back in 2001 when he was climbing up the side of the stage. He is one of those energetic type of performers such as Phil Vassar.
Jo Dee Messina has a brand new album in stores called "Delicious Surprise." She will be performing the new hit song "My Give a Damn's Busted." This will be her first performance at the hoedown since 1998.
The Colgate Country Showdown is America's Largest Country Music Talent Search. It is similar to that of American Idol or Nashville Star. Their finalists will be taking the stage at the Hoedown on Sunday morning at 1 p.m. The winner of this competition will perform later this summer at the Michigan State Fair.
Last year, I can remember when Gretchen Wilson had her first ever concert at the Hoedown. She rose to become country's best new artist with an album selling 4 million copies (4x platinum). In the same year, Big & Rich performed at the Hoedown and rose to stardom. This year, their MuzikMafia counterpart Cowboy Troy will be performing on Friday night. His brand new song is called "I Play Chicken with the Train."
The average attendance for the Downtown Hoedown is between 800,000 and 1 million people over the three-day period. I am surprised because the Detroit Auto Show has similar attendance and it's over almost 2 weeks and all these people fill Hart Plaza in just three short days.
The average weather for the Downtown Hoedown is sunny and 71 degrees. You should bring your sunglasses, wear sunscreen and drink lots of water. According to the early forecast, it will be sunny all three days with highs near 70.
