* 2006 Hoedown Preview *

Jason Rzucidlo reports from Hart Plaza where the 24th Annual Downtown Hoedown will take place.

by Jason Rzucidlo

For, this is going to be our biggest Hoedown ever!!! We are the official media partner of the Hoedown. We are advertising in the Magazine of Country Music, the official publication of the Hoedown. We are giving away some of the BEST prizes for the Hoedown -- hotel rooms, autographed CDs and t-shirts.

This year, is doing something different. With the high price of gas these days, we decided why not stay in downtown Detroit for the whole weekend. That is exactly what we're going to do. will be Broadcasting LIVE from downtown Detroit ALL weekend. For three days, we'll be with you for all the fun and excitement. [ Click here for our Press Release. ]

The Downtown Hoedown has a brand-new producer for 2006. The contract has run out for WattsUpInc. of Plymouth, MI. The new producer of the Downtown Hoedown is WMG Entertainment based in Los Angeles, CA. They have put many local people in charge of the Hoedown. For example, Big Boy is in charge of the food vendors. New this year, Big Boy will be selling its food in the basement of Hart Plaza. The man who put on the Motown Winter Blast is heading the dry vendors. 99.5 WYCD is in charge of sponsorships.

The Hoedown appears to get bigger and better each and every year. They always outdo themselves. Some of the established artists that you can see at this year's Hoedown include Westland's own Josh Gracin, Terri Clark, Tracy Byrd, Clay Walker, The Kentucky Headhunters, Rhett Akins, Josh Turner and Sammy Kershaw. Many Nashville Newcomers will be joining them. Look for Trent Tomlinson, Rodney Atkins, Miranda Lambert, Shurman, Rockie Lynne, Danielle Peck, Eric Church, Keith Anderson, Jack Ingram, The Roadhammers and Jamey Johnson to perform at Hart Plaza.

Last year, only three local bands performed at the Hoedown. Because of that, 99.5 WYCD received a lot of heat for not booking any local talent. This year, there will be five local bands performing on the Hart Plaza stage. Those are The Wrenfields, Redhill, (The Diamondback Saloon's house band) Derringer, The Forbes Brothers and Jill Jack.

99.5 WYCD has created the WYCD Roadhouse. It is a VIP area located along the Detroit riverfront. It is basically a huge tent filled with more local talent, a private bar and bathroom, a pool table and more. Local acts that will perform in the Roadhouse include Sarah Lenore, Tony Phillips, The Orbitsuns, Dani Marine, The Hummingbirds, Jen Cass, Hunter Brucks, Company of Strangers, Horse Cave Trio and Annie Capps.

For those of you that are interested, there will be mechanical bull riding in the basement of Hart Plaza. There are ten different speeds on the mechanical bull. For a small fee, you can get your picture taken and printed seconds later. It is designed for everyone from one to 100 years old. Give it a ride!!'s coverage of the 2006 Downtown Hoedown is being sponsored by The Corktown Inn, Universal Music and We're giving away three hotel rooms for one-night during Hoedown weekend. We're also giving away autographed CDs by Hoedown artists including Terri Clark, Josh Gracin, Josh Turner and Trent Tomlinson.

I have been receiving so many e-mails about the Downtown Hoedown. Many of you will be attending this year for the first time ever. I'm glad to see that. I would like to say thank you for all the nice comments you've made about our web site. We're striving for the BEST coverage of the Hoedown. I do appreciate all of the phone calls and e-mails regarding the Hoedown. Click here for our Downtown Detroit Hotel Guide. Click here for our Downtown Detroit Parking Guide. We've also got FREE driving directions being provided by MapQuest.

The average temperature for Hoedown weekend is 70 degrees. You should bring your sunglasses, wear sunscreen and drink lots of water. What to wear? You should plan on wearing a t-shirt and pants or shorts. Sometimes it does rain during the Hoedown. If it does, the entertainment will continue when the rain ends.

Last year, over 850,000 people attended the Downtown Hoedown. That is 50,000 more people than the year before. With the huge star-studded lineup this year, you can expect Hart Plaza to be filled with over 1 million people during the three day weekend. I've been getting e-mails from people not only in Michigan, but in Canada, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania that are planning on attending. Many of them will come for the first time.

For the first time ever, we've created our Hoedown News page. This page includes exclusive interviews with some of the artists that you will see at Hart Plaza. For example, there are articles on Trent Tomlinson, Danielle Peck and Rockie Lynne. Also, see tidbits on the WYCD Roadhouse as well as the new producer of the Hoedown.

I would like to take a second to highlight our Artist Profiles page. We've created this page which includes birth dates, birthplaces, hit songs, latest album, official web sites and performance times for all the stars that will play the Hoedown. It is something that we started last year and our visitors really enjoyed it. We received a lot of positive feedback about it.

Once again, I've created a special Power Point presentation that you can download. It will show you pictures from last year's Hoedown. It also has important information for those of you who are coming for the first time. You will also see the complete schedule of stars. Also, find out who is sponsoring the Hoedown. We hope you will enjoy yourself at the Hoedown. It is an event that we certainly look forward to each and every year. Click here for the presentation.

In 2005, I had the opportunity to meet many of the Hoedown stars. I had the opportunity to meet JoDee Messina, Blue County, Cowboy Troy (host of Nashville Star), Billy Dean and Chris Cagle. I also shook hands with Laura Wilkie, one of the local stars. This year, we will do the same. Look for the BEST pictures of the Hoedown. We are promising good, clean digital photos of your favorite country stars who are performing on the Hart Plaza stage.

The Downtown Hoedown began in 1983 and is known as the world's largest FREE country concert. Nowhere else on Earth can you find as many artists playing at no charge. The Hoedown has made stars out of Reba McEntire, Lee Greenwood, Toby Keith, Cowboy Troy, JoDee Messina, LeAnn Rimes, Rascal Flatts, Gretchen Wilson and Big & Rich. Many of the artists I mention had their first concert at the Hoedown then became huge stars after.

At, we are very excited for the Downtown Hoedown!! I can't believe it is only one week away... Look for people wearing "" t-shirts. Three of the people wearing the t-shirts will be visitors who them won from our website. The others will be members of our web team. We're excited to see you at the Hoedown!! We will have continuous LIVE updates from Hart Plaza all weekend long (May 19-21st).

This is where many of the food stands will be located. This area is between the stage and Jefferson Ave. It will be completely filled with people.

This is the Dodge fountain in Hart Plaza. When it is hot and sunny outside, you will see water flowing and kids having fun. It is the centerpiece of the entire venue.

This is the lower bowl of Hart Plaza. There will be a stage located right about where I'm standing. It is where the local bands will perform. The main stage is located on the main floor above.

Here's a look at Hart Plaza from the riverfront. When you attend the Hoedown, you are right next to Detroit's skyscrapers in the heart of it all!

The Renaissance Center is one of Detroit's most beautiful buildings. It is located right next to Hart Plaza. You'll be able to see it all lit up during the Hoedown at night.
