* 2007 Hoedown Review*
PHOTO BY MIKE WRATHELL / AMERICAJR.com
Hangin at the Hoedown this year was an interesting experience. Mike Wrathell and I went Friday night, and unfortunately there was also a Tigers home game (Go Tigers) so Downtown was overflowing with people. It was however, fairly simple to separate the baseball caps from the 10-gallon kind of headgear, so at least we knew we were heading in the right direction. I am not a huge country/western fan, but give me some live music and a couple of beers, and I am right at home.

We first ran into Robert with his hat full of country autographs, most of whom I could not identify. I did recognize the Alabama kerchief, however. He said he had been coming to the Hoedown from Windsor for 15 years, but that this would be his final appearance because they had changed the stage design and didnt want to only watch on the widescreens they had scattered around the performers.

She was in great spirits though and looked forward to Tracy Lawrence, so it was a pleasure chatting with her.

PHOTO BY MIKE WRATHELL / AMERICAJR.com We came upon Mike, an employee for the Carharrtt display, who was kindly offering himself up as a guinea pig for those who wanted to practice their lassoing skills. Katarina, who worked at the food stand next to it, told us that she had been watching others do it all day, and could really handle the rope just from paying attention.

were watching Katarina do a couple of passes, we ran into Flappo.
Yeah, you read that right. He and buds Dan, Ron, Kimmy and Kris
were huge country fans (as you could tell from the amount of souvenir
cups) and decided it was their turn to lasso Mike.

Return to the Downtown Hoedown section. Detroit's Downtown Hoedown is known as the World's Largest Free Country Concert. The event is held each year at Hart Plaza along Detroit's Beautiful Riverfront bordering Windsor, Ontario. It is a three-day event featuring music, dancing and fun for all ages. The music portion is filled with local bands, newcomers and established artists. BACK TO THE AMERICAJR ONLINE HOMEPAGE Copyright
