The Hoedown is definitely my favorite time of the year. I have so much fun meeting the stars and enjoying the entertainment at Hart Plaza in Downtown Detroit. There's just nothing like the Hoedown in any other place.

I like the Downtown Hoedown because I enjoy the music, the crowd, the food and the weather. It's held in the middle of May. It's a perfect time just before the summer starts. There are so many stars. We have the headliners who are famous, the stars who are starting out and then the locals.

This year the weather was very interesting. On Friday night, there was scattred storms throughout the evening. Saturday the temperature was cool mostly in the upper 60s. The best day of the three was on Sunday. It was very hot and sunny with temperatures in the mid 70s. If the weather was sunny all three days it would be boring, that's why it was interesting.

I would like to thanks Watts Up Inc. for providing me with a media pass so that I could take pictures for AmericaJR.com. I had the opportunity to meet several stars including SheDaisy, Andy Griggs and Buddy Jewell. You can see all the pictures here.

There were many highlights and surprises at this year's hoedown:

Friday Night: Newcomer Gretchen Wilson opened with her hit "Redneck Woman." Normally a star saves their hit songs for the end of the performance to keep you on your toes. Days later, the song reached the #1 spot on the Billboard Charts. The crowd went wild.

Saturday Night: Emerson Drive took the stage in the evening. They performed so many hit songs and other from their latest album. During the whole performance, the crowd was on their feet. It was just a fun time for all. They rocked the house.

LeeAnn Rimes took the stage at 10pm. She was probably the most famous of all the artists this year at the hoedown. Her performance was the first of her summer tour for 2004. It marks a return to country music for her.

Sunday Night: Big and Rich performs on the lower stage. Joining them was Cowboy Troy, a rapper. A surprise appearance was made by Detroit native Kid Rock. He came on stage to sing one song with the duo. The crowd jumped on their feet and cheered wildly. Nobody knew that he was going to be at the Hoedown until it happened.

Once again, I interviewed Linda Lee. She is the afternoon DJ on 99.5 WYCD "Detroit's Best Country." The station is the official Radio Sponsor of the Downtown Hoedown.

I asked her how she is involved in the Hoedown. She responded, "I am involved personally with the WYCD Downtown Hoedown at the actual event and spend the entire weekend downtown. Stage announcements, live broadcasts, artist interviews and hanging out and meeting our listeners is always SO much fun!!!!"

She also had an opinion on the special appearance made by Kid Rock. "I thought Kid Rock was awesome, yet did not want to steal the show from his buddies, Big Kenny and John Rich. What a great friend to come play with his buddies, just because they asked him to!"

There was a bunch of new sponsors this year. Ford Motor Company sponsored the event with a Ford F-150 and Freestar on display. They also had a contest for people to win the Truck. It was their first time being involved in the Hoedown.

Some of the food vendors provided people with free samples. One of them was Scoop's, pringle-sized candy in a container. However, you had to provide them with your Name and Address before you could get the FREE candy. Edy's Ice Cream also gave out free samples of Neopolitain ice cream. You did not have to give them any personal information.

The most profitable food vendor at the Hoedown is definitely Budweiser. They had several beer stands all over hart plaza. Each beer came in a plastic Hoedown cup that you could take home. It lists all the stars as well as the sponsors of the Hoedown. A beer was priced at $8 each.

The event is considered the World's Largest FREE Music Festival. The hoedown was founded to benefit the Detroit Recreation Department. The three-day festival draws one million people to Hart Plaza in Downtown Detroit.

Linda Lee wants to thank everyone who attended the Hoedown. She said, "I would like to thank EVERY SINGLE PERSON who came to the 22nd Annual, WYCD Downtown Hoedown. I sincerely hope everyone had a good time. I would also like to say thank you to all who choose to listen to our show every day too. Life is full of choices, and Chuck Edwards and I both sincerely appreciate those who "choose" to listen to our show! Thanks to all and God bless!!!!!!"
