"I Am Legend"
Science Fiction. Rated PG-13.
I Am Legend
is a 2007 science fiction film starring Will Smith (The Pursuit
of Happiness) and directed by Francis Lawrence (Constantine).
After the spread of
a lethal virus, U.S. Army Virologist Lieutenant Colonel Robert
Neville (Will Smith) is left as the last healthy human in New
York City and possibly the entire world because of his immunity
to an air born virus.
The story takes place
in 2010 when Neville is walking freely in the neglected city of
New York with his German Sheppard Samantha always by his side.
The film provides it’s
audience with flashbacks before the genetically re-engineered
measles virus, originally created as a cure for cancer, rapidly
infects humans and some animal species.
The film show’s
Neville trying to stay mentally stable by doing daily routine‘s
that include; finding a cure for the virus in his basement laboratory
, trips into Times Square to hunt for food that was released from
the zoo, and searches for other healthy survivors throughout the
city. But when the sun sets, Neville leaves the city and returns
home to barricade himself from the infected city dwellers that
can’t survive during the day time.
I really liked this
film because it’s not only suspenseful it’s intriguing
and very dramatic. Even though the film is science fiction, I
also felt it had a story about friendship and the means of survival.
I definitely recommend this movie, especially for someone who
likes to be scared.
