CBS Films' "Last Vegas" - 2013
This movie is about
a bunch of old men who have been friends since they were six years
old, and one is getting married to a much younger woman, and they
all get together to have a bachelor party in Las Vegas.
Sam (Kevin Kline) is
married and lives in Florida. Archie (Morgan Freeman) just had
a stroke and is being carefully taken care of by his son. Paddy
(Robert DeNiro) is a widower who is sad and negative all the time
while sitting in his easy chair in his robe, looking at the pictures
of his dead wife which is everywhere in his house. Billy (Michael
Douglas) is the one getting married in Las Vegas on Sunday and
calls all the boys who decide to give him a bachelor party over
the weekend before the wedding.
The movie begins when
Billy (who is now in his 60's) is at a funeral for an old friend
and proposes to his 31-year-old girlfriend while giving the eulogy.
The pals known as the "Flatbush Four" decide to go to
Vegas. Archie sneaks out of the house from the clutches of his
son, leaving a note that he is going on a church retreat. Sam
loves the idea and so does his wife thinking maybe it will bring
the spark back into their marriage. Paddy refuses to go and needs
some talking into but he finally says yes. There is some resentment
between Paddy and Billy because Billy never showed up to his wife
Sophie's funeral. You see, they were both attracted to the same
woman back then, but Paddy eventually won out.
When they arrive at
the Binion's Hotel, they realize the hotel is in renovations for
the next year and a half. In the meantime, they stop at the bar
and meet Diana (Mary Steenburgen) who is the nightclub singer.
In time Billy and Paddy get rather cozy with Diana. Then Billy
calls his assistant to set up a new hotel to stay at--the Aria
Hotel. They gamble and Archie bets his $15,000 pension and wins
$102,000. With that kind of money, the manager sets them up with
the penthouse suite.
The party is set up
for saturday night at their suite. Everyone shows up including
Diana. But there is a situation. Both Paddy and Billy like Diana,
which is the same thing that happened with Sophie when they were
younger. Tensions pursue.
In the end, Billy makes
a decision and you'll have to see the movie to see what that was.
50 Cent makes a brief appearance at the end of the movie.
I enjoyed the movie, and I think you will laugh out loud. Also,
the theatre was packed--not an available seat to be found.
