INDIO, Calif. -- Logan Brill was born in Knoxville, Tenn. She grew up listening to artists like Fleetwood Mac, Jackson Browne, Emmylou Harris, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Patty Griffin.

“I moved to Nashville when I was 18,” Brill said in an exclusive interview. “I was living in Knoxville and was playing as many bars as I could. My family is all into music. We all sat around and jammed together. I started making connections in the business once I moved to Nashville. It’s been a windy road, but I’m happy where I am now.”

Please tell me a little about your new album, Shut Eye, which will hit stores on May 19.

“I’m really excited about the new record. I feel like the first one was a learning experience for me. Coming into the second record, I feel like I was seasoned and ready. It’s a got a lot more upbeat stuff on it. It definitely appeals to me like the progression of an artist. I’ve been working on it for about a year now. It’s always exciting to have it done.”

Do you happen to know the first single off of that new album?

“We haven’t decided that yet,” she explained. “The first song on the album is called 'Shut Eye' after the album. We’ve considered that one, but we haven’t made a decision which one we’re going to make a single yet.”

What can fans expect to see during your performance at the Stagecoach Festival on April 26 in Indio, Calif.?

“I’ve really not gotten to spend much time as I’d like on the west coast. It’s a fun place. I couldn’t ask for a better festival to play. I’m excited to watch the other acts as a fan. It’s going to be a really good time. I’ve been playing with the same band for a long time and they’re great guys. [We’ll play] a lot of stuff off the new record. Hopefully everybody likes the new material from the new record. We’re going to rock a little.”

I saw that your Grand Ole Opry debut is coming up on May 16.

“That was really exciting for me to be able to share that,” Brill said. “The Opry is such an iconic thing in Nashville. It’s just a total thrill to be able to play. I’m looking forward to it. I’ve been to shows at the Opry but I haven’t gotten the opportunity to play. I’ve gotten to know the general manager of the Grand Ole Opry. He had taken an interest in my music. He’s been a great help for us.”

While touring across the country, do you have favorite places to stop-- restaurants or bars?

“There’s certain cities that I really love going to. My favorite has probably been Indianapolis--I’m back and forth from there a bunch. Seattle I absolutely love, just a cool city. One that I can actually think of is on the way east from Nashville. It’s like exit 46 off of Interstate 40. There’s a really small hole-in-the-wall diner called The Bean Tree. It takes them an hour to make a burger, because they make everything from scratch. It’s amazing.”

Where do you hope to be in the next five years?

“I hope that I continue to progress and am able to play shows as much as I can for the next couple of years,” she explained. “Hopefully find some success in the second record. Just keep moving onward and upward. I’ve had a great last year. I’ve been able to open for all sorts of awesome people. I’ve learned a lot through that experience. I’m hoping to play some of my own shows in the next couple of years.”
