Mario's Italian Restaurant
Guys, this is the
place to take your sweetie. She will be impressed. Mario's
Restaurant is fine dining at its best in Detroit just footsteps
from the campus of Wayne State University. It is located at
4222 2nd Ave.
Walk inside the
restaurant and you'll see photos of all the celebrities that
have ate here. If they've choosen to eat at Mario's, then
it must be a good restaurant. Hollywood actors, actresses,
sports figures and politicians all chose to dined here. The
lighting is dim and very romantic.
After getting your
table, you will be given a loaf of bread with butter. But
that's not all. Every entrée comes with an appetizer
plate which includes shrimp, rice, radishes, hot peppers and
other items to wet your appetite. In addition, there will
be a small deli tray with slices of bologna and salami.
Every entrée
also comes with minestrone soup AND antipasto salad. First,
they will give you the salad. They won't bring out the soup
until you have completely finished the salad. Then, you will
get your soup with a chance to put some parmesan cheese on
top.
I had to request
a special order because I can't have marinara sauce. My waiter
fixed me up with a pasta that had white sauce and chicken.
There was also some seasoning on the top. It tasted amazing!
However, I was full from all the bread, appetizers, soup and
salad. I ended up taking most of my pasta home in a takeout
box.
Prices at Mario's
Restaurant are a little high. However, you get a lot of food
for the price. Come with an empty stomach and you will leave
full with a box to take with you. Prices on the menu average
around $20 per entree.
If you have the
Entertainment coupon book, you can get one dinner entrée
FREE by giving them your card. The discount is only good on
regular entrées on the menu. It cannot be used on the
lighter fare portions.
Mario's has a special
deal going on where you can eat at the restaurant then go
see a Detroit Tigers game. A FREE bus shuttle will take you
to and from the game. Just park your car at Mario's and your
all set for a night of fun. The cost is $40 for the tickets
to the game, shuttle ride, grand buffet at Mario's and parking
at the restaurant. This includes fireworks after the game
(only on Fridays).
Dates for the package
include July 20th (Tigers vs. Kansas City Royals), August
3rd (Tigers vs. Chicago White Sox), August 10th (Tigers vs.
Oakland Athletics) and Monday, August 27th (Tigers vs. New
York Yankees). Limited tickets are available and I'm told
these packages sell out quick. Call 313-832-1616 to make your

A great place to
eat in Detroit if you have the money.
