Quirky Woody Allen
is at it again. This romantic comedy is about a couple, engaged
to be married, who tags along with her parents on a trip to Paris.
Gil (played by Owen
Wilson) plays a dissatisfied Hollywood screenwriter. He falls
for Paris and wants to move there while fantasizing about the
1920's, which he thinks is a better era than the present. He thinks
it was the good ole days and a much more alluring time. Don't
we always seem to think that?
Gil travels back in
time. He is writing a novel and gives his manuscript to Gertrude
Stein (played by Kathy Bates) for critique. Woody Allen brings
into the picture Ernest Hemingway, T.S. Eliot, Pablo Picasso and
Cole Porter.
There are lots of shots
of the Paris landscape and bistros. Gil always leaves at midnight
to stroll the streets of Paris and that is when his adventure
begins.
Carla Bruni (wife of
French President Nicolas Sarkozy) played the tour guide. Rachel
McAdams plays Inez, the finace of Gil.
Javier Méndez
served as executive producer of the movie. Letty
Aronson, Jaume Roures and Stephen Tenenbaum worked as producers.
The music was written by Stephane Wrembel. Raphaël Benoliel,
Helen Robin and Jack Rollins were co-producers of the project.
Woody Allen fans rejoice!
This movie is considered one of his best.
