Emma (Natalie Portman)
and Adam (Ashton Kutcher) first meet at camp when they were 14.
Then, they met again at the University of Michigan five years
later. Ten years later, they bump into each other again. While
Emma who is a doctor by now, is deathly afraid of committed relationships.
After seeing his father,
Alvin, played by Kevin Kline, who is a sitcom star, going out
with his ex-girlfriend, Adam is devastated and bumps into Emma
at a party and has a one-night stand. They eventually agree on
an arrangement where they will be friends---but with fringe benefits.
This deal works well with cold-hearted Emma. But as they see more
of each other, Adam gets romantically involved. Emma repeatedly
keeps breaking his heart.
When Adam can't stand
it no more, he decides to break it off. Weeks go by and Emma misses
him and with urging from her sister, decides to call Adam. Adam
is with a couple of women at the time and is cold towards Emma.
Emma thinks she lost him. So Emma goes to his house to make up
and accidentally sees Adam arrive with the two women and she hides
in the bushes, then leaves.
Days go by and Adam
gets a call that his father is in the hospital. He sees Emma there
and she apologizes and tells him that she loves him and they both
decided to start over and go on a date.
This romantic comedy
is directed by Ivan Reitman. It also stars Greta Gerwig and Ophelia
Lovibond. Scenes for the film were shot in Los Angeles, Beverly
Hills and Santa Barbara.
I loved it and definitely
recommend it. This movie opens on Friday, January 21.
