Did
You Know??
- Cassie,
Rhythm & Blues sensation, will perform one of her chart-topping
songs live at the 17th Annual Hob Nobble Gobble® fundraiser
at the Michigan State Fairgrounds on Wednesday, November
22, 2006, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Cassie will appear on the
“Sounds of Detroit” float, sponsored by Clear
Channel Radio, on Thanksgiving morning.
- Thanksgiving
eve is one of the top five days for pizza deliveries each
year along with Super Bowl Sunday, New Year's Day, New Year's
Eve and Halloween.
- It
would take a float more than one month for drive nonstop
from Detroit to Los Angeles. The average speed of a float
is 3 miles per hour.
- The
first parade has four bands, a few giant paper-mache heads
and ten floats, attracting 100,000 spectators. Today, the
two-hour parade includes more than 75 units and is viewed
by one million curbside fans and another 104 million households
nationwide.
- In
celebration with America's Thanksgiving Parade's 80th birthday,
The Parade Company will be passing out 80,000 birthday birthdays
gifts along the new Parade route. Ten of the gifts will
hold gold tickets giving Parade-goers the chance to win
fabulous grand prizes.
- After
Mardi Gras parades, America's Thanksgiving Parade is the
2nd largest distributor of beads along a parade route.
- Only
7 other countries in the world have official Thanksgiving
Day holidays -- Switzerland, Argentina, Canada, Brazil,
Japan, Korea, and Liberia.
- Last
year, more than 800 people participated in the Mashed Potato
Mile, a one mile run/walk leading up to Michigan's largest
10K run - and "the tradition before the tradition"
- the Turkey Trot, in which more than 5,000 runners participated.
- America's
Thanksgiving Parade® has a new route this year, modeled
after the original Parade route in 1924 along Woodward Avenue
in downtown Detroit. The new route highlights some of the
City’s architectural treasures, such as the Fox Theatre,
and some of downtown’s latest development including
Merchants Row, Compuware World Headquarters and Campus Martius
Park. The Parade steps-off at Woodward Avenue and Mack on
Thursday, November 23 at 9:20 a.m. in downtown Detroit and
ends at Woodward Avenue and Congress.
