PREVIEW: New Floats, Balloon and Marching Band to
join 2008 Parade
As
hundreds of thousands of people line Woodward Avenue
and millions watch across the country, they will notice
three new floats, one new balloon and a first-time
marching band. America's Thanksgiving Parade celebrates
its 82nd year of making magic and memories for children
and adults. |

Design Winners Announced
The Parade
Company unveiled The Skillman Foundation winning float
and balloon designs that will be part of America's
Thanksgiving Parade on November 27, 2008. Julissa
Madrigal, a 7th grader from Earhart Middle School
in Detroit and Emirene Munoz, an 8th grader from Clippert
Academy in Detroit were the grand prize-winning artists
of the 17th Annual Skillman Foundation Float and Balloon
Design Contest. Madrigal’s drawing of “Our
Aquarium” was transformed into a life-size captivating
float, and Munoz’s drawing “Elephante”
was magically transformed into a vibrant balloon. |

of Detroit Announces Parking and Bus Re-Routes for
The Parade and Detroit Lions Game
More than
one million people are expected to come to downtown
Detroit to enjoy the annual Turkey Trot, America’s
Thanksgiving Parade and the Detroit Lions’ game
at Ford Field on Nov. 27. The City is prepared to
accommodate the increased traffic flow in the downtown
area, and ample and convenient parking is available
to accommodate audiences for these great events. |

The economy
may be crippling into the Great Recession, but the
spirit of Detroit as well as the human spirit wasn't
dampered at the 82nd Annual America's Thanksgiving
Parade last Thursday morning. Brooke Hogan, Brandy
and Detroit Mayor Kenneth Cockrel Jr. were among those
riding on floats in the parade for almost everyone
to see. |
