Sunday, 2 September, 2007 1:07 AM Spinning Some Golden Oldies at The State Fair
PHOTO BY MIKE WRATHELL / AMERICAJR.com The Spinners perform at the 2007 Michigan State Fair.
The Spinners spun a golden web of delight Wednesday night at the oldest state fair in our fair nation. As AmericaJR.com's Entertainment Editor, Sheila Franklin, raved the show was as "close to God as you can get!" The crowd was in Seventh Heaven as hit after hit and spin after spin filled the sweetly-soaked air following a rain delay that would have made Jim Leland proud. The Spinners were dazzling in their yellow costumes and entertained the rapturous crowd with their bantering between songs that kept everyone in a sustained aura of delight. I told Sheila that The Platters would have a hard time following The Spinners, but, as it turned out, they had canceled. I hope they are okay, but it might have been a wise move.... After the show the "The Greatest Carnival In The World" was still going on, even though the lights said it was "The Greatest Carn n The World." I won a little gecko doll with my dart prowess. We named him "Pervis" in honor of Pervis Jackson, the bass singer for The Spinners, whose voice is nearly as deep as the Marianas Trench. If you have not been to the oldest state fair in our nation in a while, there are plenty more gecko dolls and other attractions, such as animals and music and funnel cake. Enjoy summer while it lasts!
