Well we haven't seen a Barbra Streisand movie in ages. In Guilt Trip, she plays an overbearing mother in the lead role with her son, Andy, played by Seth Rogen. As Andy only visits her mother once a year, he invites her to come on a road trip with him. She excitedly accepts, thinking this will be the trip of a lifetime.

While Andy tries to pitch his invention of Scioclean, an environmentally-friendly cleaning solution, to many stores going across the country such as Kmart, Costco, Ace Hardware, etc. Not having any luck with the product, Joyce (Barbra Streisand) tags along interfering with the executives of the companies and giving her son advice. She talks too much and babies her son, which is embarrassing to say the least.

One day, Joyce tells her son about a boy she went out with before she met Andy's father, and Andy looks him up on the internet and finds out he is still single, and integrates seeing him as the final lap of the trip. Once finding this out, Joyce feels betrayed and thought Andy just wanted some quality time with his mother. Not knowing of the scheme, she is hurt but as she thinks about it, she is also curious.

Also starring in this movie are Julene Renee-Preciado, Zabryna Guevara, John Funk, Robert Curtis Brown, Kathy Najimy, Miriam Margolyes, Rose Abdoo, Tom Virtue, Vivian Vanderwerd, Worth Howe, Vicki Goldsmith, Matthew Levinson and Joseph Levinson. Detroit's own Anne Fletcher directed "The Guilt Trip." She is best known for directing films such as "The Proposal," "27 Dresses" and "Step Up."

From what I understand, the movie never really went cross country, but filmed at a sound stage in Malibu, even though you see scenes like the Memphis, Tenn., the Grand Canyon, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. It is rated PG-13 for language and some risque material.

I found the movie entertaining and realized how I missed Barbra Streisand in movies. This movie is somewhat comical and I would recommend it.

Look for "The Guilt Trip" in theaters right now and on DVD beginning on Tuesday, April 30.

OVERALL RATING: B+
