"The Martian Child"
Comedy,
Drama, Science Fiction/Fantasy and Adaptation. Rated PG.
Discover a world of
a small boy whose universe collides with a very special family
in the film, Martian Child. John Cusack stars in this
inspirational and emotional journey about David, a recently widowed
science fiction writer (John Cusack , High Fidelity),
who forms an unlikely family with a close friend (Amanda Peet,
The Whole Ten Yards, Something’s Gotta Give) and
wants to adopt a fragile young boy (Bobby Coleman; Friends
With Money, Must Love Dogs) who believes he’s from
Mars. Realizing that they both can relate to one another, David
accepts the child’s differences and emotional needs and
the two learn how to open their hearts and love again.
I very much enjoyed
this uplifting film about two people with broken hearts that go
on a journey to find one another. Martian Child is truly
an inspirational film that the whole family can relate to and
enjoy.

EXCLUSIVE
INTERVIEW WITH BOBBY COLEMAN
I’ve
recently had the pleasure of interviewing one of the stars of
the Martian Child, Bobby Coleman, who plays Dennis in
the film.
Q: What
was it like playing an orphan in this movie?
A:
It was really hard to relate to.
Q: How
did you prepare for the role?
A:
My family and I all gathered around once I got the script and
wondered how it would feel to be an orphan, and what it would
be like not to be loved. Once Dennis found someone to love him,
like David, then he was able to be himself and stop imagining
he was from Mars. Dennis excluded himself because he wasn’t
like other kids.
Q: Seeing
that you have been in other films, what is it about Martian Child
that you enjoyed?
A:
I really loved working with John, because he’s such a great
person. He came up to me when we first started shooting and told
me he wanted to gradually get to know me better, so when we shot
the scenes our friendship would feel and look real.
Q: What
was it like working with the Cusack brother and sister team?
A:
It was so cool, because Joan always has a smile on her face. She
has two sons that always came to the set that I would hang out
with. I always have nice things to say about John and Joan because
their such kind people.
Q: Regarding
your character in the movie is there anything you can relate with?
A:
One scene in the movie where Dennis is in the back yard of David’s
house exploring all the insects, plants and trees. That’s
definitely something I’m very interested in. I related to
Dennis a lot because we both love space, and he’s always
curious about his environment just like I am.
Q: What
do you think this story says about kids who have trouble “fitting
in“?
A:
This movie can help kids by learning it’s ok to be themselves
even if other kids in school think their weird. No child should
be picked on in school and I think Dennis is a great example of
someone whose not afraid.
Q: What
kind of movies do you like to watch?
A:
Favorite movie of all time is I Am Legend, starring Will
Smith. I really enjoy watching the Nickelodeon shows as well,
my favorite is Sponge Bob.
