DETROIT -- My husband and I stopped in to check out the Town Pump Tavern, which I heard so much about. It was easy to find, the address is 100 W. Montcalm, which is located right behind the Fox Theatre in downtown Detroit.

The menu was quite extensive, with appetizers ranging in price from $3.50 for the chips and salsa to 20 wings at $24.95. They have salads including a Michigan salad which consists of mixed greens topped with dried cherries, apples, crumbled blue cheese, red onions and raspberry vinaigrette for $7.95.

Also included on the menu are Specialty sandwiches such as pesto chicken, Atlantic cod, cowboy chicken, reuben, turkey caliente, BLT, Southwest chicken roll-up and Italian sub. These prices range from $6.25 to $9.50.

The burgers are fabulous. We had a half-pound cheeseburger and with it came french fries and Michigan-made McClure pickles. Our food was prepared perfectly. There is quite a selection of burgers here.

They also have create-your-own pizzas with a selection of 22 different toppings. The 12-inch is $8.95 and the 16-inch is $12.95. Of course, they have specialty pizzas also.

The waitress was friendly and service was impeccable. They boast that their kitchen is open til 11 p.m. daily. There is also a wide selection of liquor and beers.

The decor was dark wood with interesting hanging light fixtures. They also offer free wireless internet for those on business.

I would recommend this place anytime, any day, especially before or after a Tigers game since it is close to Comerica Park.

Overall Rating: A
