This movie is about
Gus Lobel (Clint Eastwood) who has been the best talent scout
in baseball for many years. As he has aged, his eyes are going
bad, and being as stubborn as he is, refuses to get his eyes looked
at by a specialist.
With three months left
in his contract, Gus leaves for Asheville, North Carolina to watch
some high school games and make a decision on who will be the
Atlanta Braves draft choice. He claims he can tell a pitch by
the sound of the bat.
He has a rocky and
distant relationship with his daughter, Mickey (Amy Adams), but
she is concerned for him so she surprises him up in North Carolina
to help him choose. Mickey is a high-powered lawyer trying to
become a partner in a prestigious law firm in Atlanta. However,
Mickey wants to save her father's career while unknowingly jeopardizing
her own. Johnny (Justin Timberlake), a former baseball player,
finds himself interested in her.
Clint Eastwood seems
to take on roles lately of a stubborn, old, senile man with a
gruffy voice. I think he does a good job. Also he seems to talk
to himself a lot in these movies. Sound familiar?
Scenes were shot in
Young Harris, Georgia; Dunwoody High School in Dunwoody, Ga.;
baseball fields in Jasper, Ga.; Turner Field in Atlanta; Luther
Williams Field in Macon, Ga.; Dawsonville, Ga.; and in Athens,
Ga. Robert Lorenz directed the film while Randy Brown wrote the
screenplay.
The movie lasted 111
minutes. I enjoyed the movie and would recommend it.
