106.7 The Fox collected 4,571 Toys for Tots at the Southland Center in Taylor, MI. The three-day LIVE broadcast was held from Monday, December 11th thru Wednesday, December 13th. It was the first annual event for the new country station in Detroit.

The new country radio station was set up in front of Macy's and next to Olga's Kitchen. Toys for Tots is a division of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. All of the toys that were collected will be given to children who need them in the Metro Detroit area. They will not be shipped off to other states or regions. They will all be given to local children.

The entire airstaff came out to help and support the toy drive. Morning host Rick Miller, mid-day host Ericka Lynn, afternoon drive host Scott Gaines and evening host Rob Gramm all participated in the event. The goal was to teach children the gift of giving and help out those who are in need this holiday season.

Scott Gaines is a personality on the station from 3 to 7 p.m. weekdays. He said, "I have done well over a dozen of these... I have done this before and it has always made me feel great inside. Our listeners are GREAT! We asked and they came out and gave with all their hearts."

Along with the joy of donating a toy, listeners had the chance to register for $10,000. Everyone who came out and dropped off a toy received an entry form to win the cash. The more toys you brought, the more chances you had to win the money. The winner of the prize was Debbie Taylor, a resident of Taylor. Gaines describes the winner, "she did not even realize she won until like an hour afterward."

This year, the national spokespersons for Toys for Tots are daytime talk show host and author Dr. Phil McGraw and his wife, Robin McGraw. This is the 59th consecutive year for the organization. "Robin and I are happy to be part of this ongoing, extraordinary effort to bring a little joy into the life of children of all ages during the holiday season," Dr. Phil said.

McGraw added, "We are especially proud to be working with the Marine Corps Reserves in their 59th year of continuing volunteer efforts to help these kids. Last year, 7.5 million children received toys thanks to Toys for Tots because of the generosity of people across the country who donated a toy or made a contribution. This year we are proud to meet the challenge of bringing as many toys as possible to kids who are in need, and we are happy to use the resources of the Dr. Phil show to do it."

Several local radio stations in the Metro Detroit area have hosted Toys for Tots drives this holiday season. 106.7 The Fox (WDTW-FM) has collected 4,571 toys during a three-day broadcast. Clear Channel sister station 102.9 W4 Country (WWWW-FM) is currently collecting Toys for Tots at the Briarwood Mall. Their LIVE broadcast will run from Dec. 15 - 23, 2006.
