American Heart Association to honor local heart health champions at Rock the Red Music Benefit April 28

LOS ANGELES – An award-wining fitness instructor, a fourth grader and a local company will be honored for their contributions to building healthier lives in Los Angeles at the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women Rock the Red Music Benefit, which will be held at the Grammy Museum in Downtown Los Angeles on April 28, 2016.

Cassey Ho will be recognized with the Health Spotlight Award for inspiring, motivating and empowering her legions of fans to live healthy and strong and be their best self. Ho is the creator of Blogilates, the leading female fitness channel on YouTube with over 300 million video views and 3 million subscribers. Cassey’s POP Pilates© format, which launched on YouTube in 2009, has become a live class at 24 Hr Fitness gyms in the U.S. She is the author of Hot Body Year Round and is the designer of her own active wear line, POPFLEX.

Ava Ganny, a student at Meadows Elementary in Manhattan Beach, will receive the Youth Champion Award in recognition of her efforts to spread heart health awareness in her school and neighborhood. Ganny became a strong advocate for Go Red For Women after her mom survived a heart attack. Ganny led her school in participating in National Wear Red Day to bring attention to heart disease, and on Halloween, she created a custom Go Red treat bag to spread awareness. Ava participates in the AHA’s Jump Rope For Heart every year, raising funds to help save lives.

“Union Bank is proud to support an event that honors some of the AHA’s most loyal and passionate supporters. From responsible corporate citizens to a young school-aged girl, these are fine examples of how everyone can make a difference in the fight against heart disease and stroke,” said Christine Sarkissof, Managing Director-Region Manager for Union Bank’s Westside Coastal Region.

The Rock the Red Music Benefit, presented by Union Bank and Huntington Hospital, will feature performances by rising stars in the music scene, Hollywood Records artists Shawn Hook, Zella Day and Sabrina Carpenter. The event includes a silent auction, motivational speakers and VIP reception. Dr. Jessica Sims of White Memorial Medical Center leads the event as the chairwoman.

Heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year – more than all cancers combined. The AHA’s Go Red For Women movement provides women with tools and resources they need to live longer, stronger, healthier lives.

Funds raised at Go Red For Women events support the association’s lifesaving work, including funding innovative scientific research, bringing health education programs to children and adults in the community, setting science-based best practices for treating heart disease and stroke and advocating for policies that positively impact cardiovascular health.

Go Red For Women is sponsored nationally by Macy’s and locally by Union Bank and Huntington Hospital.
