Brothers Osborne, Thompson Square headline 98 KCQ Country Music Fest

SAGINAW, Mich. — A pair of rising country music duos and an American Idol winner are headlining the 2017 KCQ Country Music Fest free concert this Saturday on Saginaw’s Ojibway Island.

The island opens to the public beginning at 8 a.m. Meanwhile, the Section 98 and preferred gold seating areas will open at 9 a.m.

Detroit-based Taylor Tucky will kick off the music on the island stage at 11 a.m. They are made up of Todd Felske, Chris Wietzke, Lonnell Lewis, Marc Davis, Bruce Shew, and Cheri Whalen. Taylor Tucky will also perform in between the main acts during stage changes.

American Idol winner Trent Harmon will follow with a performance on the main stage at 12:15 p.m. The 25-year-old musician was born in East Mississippi. He won the 2016 season of the popular reality show with the song “Falling.” However, he is best known for this first single “There’s A Girl” from his self-titled debut EP.

Keifer and Shawna Thompson, better known as Thompson Square, will entertain the crowd on the main stage at 1:30 p.m. They quickly rose to fame with their No. 1 single “Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not” in 2010. That was followed up with hits “I Got You” and “If I Didn’t Have You.” Look for them to perform their new song “You Make It Look So Good.”

Brothers Osborne will headline the KCQ Country Music Fest with a performance at 3:30 p.m. The rising country music duo is made up of T.J. and John Osborne. They are best known for the 2015 single “Stay a Little Longer.” Also look for them to perform recent singles “21 Summer” and “It Ain’t My Fault.” They have been entertaining audiences at sold shows across the country. Brothers Osborne won the 2017 ACM Award for Vocal Duo of the Year and the 2016 CMA Award for Vocal Duo of the Year.

There’s even more fun to be had at the KCQ Country Music Fest. The special event also features a classic car show, a children’s area, arts and crafts vendors, food vendors and beer tents. Participating restaurants that will be on site include Slo’ Bones BBQ Smokehaus, G’s Pizzeria among many others.

Temperatures are expected to hit 87 degrees on Saturday afternoon. Remember to bring lots of sunscreen and comfortable walking shows. There is a 60 percent chance of storms, so it’s recommended to bring a poncho. However, umbrellas are not allowed at the festival.

Ojibway Island is located about 90 miles north of metro Detroit. Take I-75 North to 149B to merge onto M-46 W toward Buena Vista and then continue on M-46 W. Free parking is available outside Ojibway Island with free shuttles running throughout the day. Rust Park on Rust Avenue (M-46) and Hoyt Park (M-13) are just two of many available.
