Marvel Monday: Netflix renews ‘Iron Fist’ for a second season

Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb announced the season two renewal of “Iron Fist” at the San Diego Comic-Con on Friday.  According to Deadline, Loeb stated that the new season will have more female empowerment in the form of a team-up between kung-fu master Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) and NYPD detective Misty Knight (Simone Missick).  In the comics, Misty and Colleen formed a superhero partnership as the duo known as the Daughters of the Dragon.  In other words: Colleen Wing and Misty Knight are the female Luke Cage/Power Man and Danny Rand/Iron Fist.

And speaking of the Heroes For Hire, you’re going to see the early stages of their partnership in Marvel’s “The Defenders” come August 18, as “righteous ex-con” Luke (Mike Colter) and Danny (Finn Jones) “the kid with the glowing fist” must work together with “blind ninja” lawyer/masked vigilante Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and “smart-ass detective” Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) in the war to save New York City.

Marvel’s “Iron Fist” is the fourth and final Defender with Jones as Danny Rand, a young man who returns to New York after being presumed dead for 15 years.  Trained as a living weapon, destined to be the sworn enemy of the Hand, he sets out to reclaim both his birthright and his family’s company from forces who oppose his crusade in becoming the superhero known as the Iron Fist.
