Manic Monday: ‘John Wick: Chapter Three’ is aimed for a 2019 release

On Valentine’s Day weekend 2017, Keanu Reeves was back as John Wick, the sharp-dressed heartthrob of a hit man in John Wick: Chapter Two.

Now, Lionsgate has announced that John Wick: Chapter Three has been set for a May 17, 2019 release, according to Variety.  Having John Wick: Chapter Three coming out in 2019 could be a very good thing – because that year will celebrate the anniversaries of 1994’s Speedand 1999’s The Matrix, the films that cemented Keanu’s status as an action icon.  And speaking of The MatrixJohn Wick: Chapter Twowas “the one” that reunited Keanu – aka Neo – with Laurence Fishburne, aka Morpheus.

The legend of John Wick began in 2014, where the character fit right alongside Denzel Washington as The Equalizer, Liam Neeson’s ex-spy with “a particular set of skills” Bryan Mills in Taken 3, Kiefer Sutherland’s anti-terrorism agent Jack Bauer in FOX’s 24: Live Another Day, and Jim Caviezel’s brooding ex-spy turned Batman in a Suit John Reese in CBS’ Person of Interest.  Maybe a man like John Wick can know a thing like a peace by seeking redemption for his sins with an renewed sense of purpose in saving lives rather than taking them: hiring himself out for those who can’t fight for themselves, helping them right their wrongs.

The first two chapters of John Wick follows the character coming out of retirement to be “that guy” once more: the boogeyman that sought revenge against those who broke into his house, stole his vintage Mustang, beat him up and left him for dead, killed his dog that was given to him as a gift from his late wife Helen, and blew up his house.  Wick’s blood trail of vengeance led from New York City to Rome and back again in New York: facing off against the world’s most deadliest assassins, and ends up being the contract himself.

So, whoever comes after John Wick in chapter three … he will kill them all.
