In the span of 25 years, Keanu Reeves has been “the One” when it comes to being a man of action: whether it is preventing a bus from being blown up in “Speed” or knowing kung-fu in “The Matrix.“ This summer, he’s “that guy” once more in “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.”
Set after the end of “Chapter Two,“ the final chapter finds John on the run with a $14 million bounty on his head when he broke the cardinal rule: taking a life on the grounds of the Continental Hotel. The person was a member of the High Table responsible for ordering the hit. Now persona non grata, John Wick has become the most-wanted man ever, but he still strives to find peace and there’s only one way he can do that: preparing war against every assassin out to collect the price on his head.
Joining Keanu in this fight is Oscar winner Halle Berry, as “Parabellum” includes the return of co-stars Ian McShane and Laurence Fishburne.
Praised by critics and movie audiences worldwide, the “John Wick” film saga is definitely a live-action comic-book: up there with the “Taken” trilogy and 2014’s “The Equalizer” in the revenge/vigilante genre.
If the character John Wick ever does get out of New York alive, then he should finally retire as an assassin, rise and be reborn as an avenging angel: a brooding dark knight who seeks to right the wrongs of his past by righting the wrongs of the world on behalf of those who can’t fight for themselves. Using his deadly skills, John Wick finds a renewed sense of purpose in helping the helpless and hopeless, unleashing his own brand of justice among the guilty, the corrupt and powerful.
“John Wick: Chapter 3” Parabellum begins May 17.
