Superhero Saturday: CW renews “Arrow”, “Flash”, DC’s “Legends” and “Black Lightning”

The CW Renews All Superhero Shows

The Arrowverse lives on, as Arrow has been aimed for a eighth season by the CW.  The network has also speed up The Flashfor a sixth season, lit up Black Lightning for a third season and renewed DC’s Legends of Tomorrowfor a fifth season.

In its seventh season, Arrow follows former Star City mayor Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) finally unmasked as the masked vigilante known as the Green Arrow, aka the Emerald Archer: a modern-day Robin Hood righting the wrongs of his family, serving justice against those who’ve failed the people of the city.  Released from prison, he’s now working on the right side of the law as a consultant for the SCPD, as a new Green Arrow is taking aim against the corrupt, the greedy and powerful: his half-sister Emiko.

Season five of The Flash finds Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and his team meeting his daughter Nora/XS, a speedster from the future who’s working with Team Flash to stop Cicada (Chris Klein), a serial killer on a mission to wipe out every meta-human in Central City.  It’s up to Team Flash to stop him and save the future, but what Team Flash don’t know is that Nora is working with the Reverse-Flash, her father’s arch-nemesis … the man who murdered Barry’s mother.

The fourth season of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is indeed a charmed season with time-traveling Captain Sara Lance/White Canary (Caity Lotz) and her “Waverider” crew of misfits, outsiders, loners and rogues entering the mystical world of magic with the addition of demonic expert John Constantine (Matt Ryan) and shapeshifter Charlie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers).  The Legends are also joined by Nora Darhk (Courtney Ford, the real-life wife of Brandon Routh, who plays Ray Palmer/the Atom) and Time Bureau Director Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan), one-half of the supercouple “AvaLance”.

The sophomore season of Black Lightning continues the story of Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams), the high-school principal who underwent the superhero resurrection as his alter-ego Black Lightning.  With the aid of his ex-wife Lynn (Christine Adams), their daughters Anissa/Thunder (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer/Lightning (China Anne McClain), best friend and deputy police chief Bill Henderson (Damon Gumpton), and father figure/mentor Peter Gambi (James Remar), Jefferson/Black Lightning sets out to restore of the power of hope and justice to the people of Freeland against the evil and corrupt forces that threatens the unity of the community.

Arrow aims its 150th episode this coming Monday, followed by a new Black Lightning.  The Flash airs on Tuesdays, as DC’s Legends returns with new episodes starting Monday, April 1.
