Superhero Sunday: The CW renews “Supergirl” and “Charmed”

"Supergirl" and "Charmed" air Sundays on the CW

Supergirl Lives!

The CW has announced the Girl of Steel will be taking flight for a fifth season.  Starring Melissa Benoist, Supergirl follows Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Metropolis’ Man of Steel known as Superman.  To some people, she is CatCo reporter Kara Danvers, but she secretly works with her adoptive sister Alex (Chyler Leigh), who has become a hero in her own right as the director of the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO).

As Supergirl, Kara is “Stronger Together” with the aid of James Olsen/Guardian (Mehcad Brooks), Nia Nal/Dreamer (Nicole Maines), Brainiac-5 (Jesse Rath), Lena Luthor (Katie McGrath) and J’onn J’ozz/Martian Manhunter (David Harewood): bringing “Help, Hope and Compassion” to people and aliens in National City against enemies such as Agent Liberty (Sam Witmer), who’s stirring up hatred, prejudice, and discrimination against aliens with his Children of Liberty movement.

Girl Power continues to reign with Charmed picked up for a second season.  A reboot of the popular supernatural fan favorite that aired from 1998 to 2006, the series follows three sisters who discover they’re witches.  As the Charmed Ones, they have a destiny to protect the innocent and fight the forces of evil, as they’re also on a mission to find out what and who killed their mother and why so they can avenge her death.

Supergirl and Charmed returns with new episodes February 17.
