Dayton Will Face Kansas for the Maui Jim, Maui Invitational Championship

LAHAINA, MAUI — In the second round game during the Maui Jim Maui Invitational, MSU bested Georgia 93-85.  When asked about the team’s conversation last night leading up to the game, Cassius Winston said, “We just focused on a lot, just focused within ourselves.  We got all the pieces.  We got everything we need to be a really good team.  Everyone’s going to bring their best each every night.”

Michigan State is definitely growing as a team.  On the season, the Spartans are now 4-2. 

Kansas beat BYU 71-56.  Kansas head Coach Bill Self said post-game, “Well that was a hard team to guard.  And early in the game they had us on our heels the first 10-minutes.”

Dayton bested Virginia Tech 89-62.  Obi Toppin had this to say after the game, “Knowing what we have been through this whole off-season and summer, it’s a good feeling being in this position.  Right now just because we know how hard we worked to get here.  And so this opportunity to play in the championship at the Maui Invitational, it’s a great feeling.

UCLA handled Chaminade easily 74-48.   Dayton takes on Kansas for the championship at 5:00 p.m. ET, Wednesday on ESPN.

In pre-tournament activities the, due of UCLA head Coach Mick Cronin and Iao Middle School 7th grader Mason Teraoku won the Coaches Charity Free Throw Contest in overtime with clutch shots.  Teraoku said that Phys-Ed. was his favorite class.
