LIVONIA, Mich. —  The Men’s Basketball team at Schoolcraft College is currently ranked number three in the country.  That was according to the latest poll of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II men’s basketball committee.  The team is 21-1 and will soon have a home final home stand before the playoffs.

Schoolcraft went 4-0 recently beating Oakland Community College, Mott Community College (19), Henry Ford College and Delta.  The Ocelots compete in the Eastern Conference of the Michigan Community College Athletic Conference (MCCAA) and in Region XII of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

“Our goal is to win a national championship each and every year, but if we could trade a national championship for graduating everyone and moving them on to a four year school, we’re going to take that every single time,” said new head coach Corey McKendry last season.

“Junior college isn’t the final destination for most of these players.  Some will transfer to bigger colleges and universities, but these guys feel like they can also have fun and win now, while still working toward their future goals.” .  (McKendry, 35 years old, was appointed head coach mid-season last year.)

Sophomore Tre Harvey is leading the team in scoring with 14 points per game.  In addition, a balanced attack is very evident.  The scoring is being shared, resulting in a potent powerhouse.  David Wren, D’Quarion Cole, Carl Bow, Zavon, Godwin and Kemon Bassett are all in double figures.  On the season, Schoolcraft is averaging 88 points per game.

“We take a lot of pride in helping them get to where they want to go,” McKendry added.

The team’s next home game will be Saturday, Feb. 15th at 3:00 p.m. against Delta.  The Ocelots also have home games on Wednesday, Feb. 19th and Wednesday, Feb. 26th both at 7:30 p.m.

The NJCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Tournament will be March 17-21, 2020 and presented by Danville Area Community College in Danville, Ill.  The Danville Area Community College and the City of Danville are hosting the tourney for the 27th consecutive year.
