Queen Latifah definitely has the odds in her favor, as CBS renews The Equalizer for a second season.

A reboot of the 1980s spy/detective series that starred Edward Woodward (followed by two big-screen film adaptations from Denzel Washington) , The Equalizer serves Latifah as both star and executive producer in the role of Robyn McCall, a former operative for The Company who decides to use her covert skills to help people who have nowhere else to turn to.  A single mother to teenage daughter Delilah, McCall becomes a specialist: using her powers for good to balance the scales of justice.

The Equalizer has proven more than equal to the task of engaging viewers and racking up wins on Sunday night'”, CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl.  “We’re extremely proud to see this outstanding broadcast drama, led by Queen Latifah, punch through the competitive landscape and return for a second season.”

Viewers were first touched by an angel named The Equalizer last month when it premiered after the Super Bowl, where Robyn McCall becomes the one call people make when they can’t dial 911.

Co-starring Lorraine Toussaint, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira and Chris Noth, The Equalizer returns with a new episode Sunday, March 28.
