DETROIT
-- French DJ Agoria is set to make
his mark in the U.S. with a national tour that concludes with a
very special performance on the Vitamin Water Main Stage at the
Movement Electronic Music Festival over Memorial Day weekend, May
29-31, 2010. Though, the name Agoria may have only recently entered
the vernacular of America’s clubbing population, but this
is not his first time performing stateside or in the Motor City.
"For me, it was quite a gift to be invited back to Detroit.
I was really excited and proud” he states.
Agoria has been making a name for himself stateside and worldwide
with the rave reviews he has received for his Balance 16:Agoria,
as well as a successful Winter Music Conference debut. "Balance
16 is interesting because I showcase a different type of music"
he goes on. "As a DJ, what really excites me is to find the
right balance." Now, Agoria hopes to increase on this success
with his American tour -- starting with New York City at 50 Bowery
(May 21) then going to San Francisco at Pulse One (May 22) and onto
Detroit at the Pulse Lounge (May 27) and the Movement festival (May
31), which will be celebrating its 10th anniversary.
Born in
France, a young Sebastian Devaud never intended to be known as Agoria.
"It comes from parties we organized in my home town Lyon, France
when I was 20" he said. "The name of the parties were
'Agora' (which in Greek means: "A place of congregation"),
and one day my friends pushed me to spin some records and wrote
the name 'Agoria' on the flyer. I didn't know who he (Agoria) was
and I asked my friends; they answered not to worry, that Agoria
was a good DJ … Then the day of the event they told me, one
hour before the DJ set time of ''Agoria'... that it will be my turn
and I have to hurry up and look for my records!"
Whether
he chose the name or not, Agoria is now an established figure in
the world of electronic music. A technical master of track selection
and mixing that, one would think, has a complex outlook toward his
craft. This couldn’t be farther from the truth with Agoria
maintaining the simple philosophy: "I love to play long shots…
The thing is to have fun.”
Agoria is
also playing in advance of Movement on May 22 @ Boom Boom Room (www.boomboomroom.ca)
in Windsor, Canada and at the Pulse Lounge (www.pulsedetroit.com)
in Detroit on May 27.
