STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. -- Officials from the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau and the MotorCities National Heritage Area released their schedule of events for Autopalooza 2013. The announcement was made inside the GM Heritage Center in Sterling Heights, Mich. on Tuesday afternoon.

Jim Campbell, Chevrolet's V.P. Performance Vehicles & Motorsports welcomed everyone to the GM Heritage Center. "There are 600 heritage vehicles from all divisions," he said. "There is concept vehicles, race vehicles, engineering research vehicles and milestone production vehicles. As you look around, you can see some classic vehicles. Autopalooza 2013 is uniquely about the car business and all the shows throughout the summer. Chevrolet is proud to be involved in the races, cruises, shows and auctions. These events run from May 31-Sept. 22, 2013."

Campbell announced all the 16 auto events specifically. This year's Autopalooza is made up of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix from May 31-June 6; the Eastpointe Gratiot Cruise on June 15 in Macomb County; Quicken Loans 400 NASCAR Weekend on June 15-16 and Pure Michigan 400 NASCAR Weekend on August 17-18 in Brooklyn; Motor Muster on June 15-16 in Dearborn; EyesOn Design on June 16 in Grosse Pointe Shores; the Sloan Museum Auto Fair on June 22-23 in Flint; Cruisin' Downriver on June 29 in southern Wayne County; RM Auctions Vintage Motor Cars on July 27 in Plymouth; Concours d'Elegance of America on July 28 in Plymouth; Clinton Township Gratiot Cruise on August 4 in Macomb County; Back to the Bricks Cruise Weekend on August 13-17 in Flint; The Woodward Dream Cruise on August 17 in various cities; Cruisin' Hines on August 25 in Westland; Old Car Festival on September 7-8 in Dearborn and the Orphan Car Show on September 22 at Riverside Park in Ypsilanti.

"What is my favorite car here?" asked Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel. "Well, with my background in law enforcement, it is any vehicle with red and blue lights on top." He grew up in Warren, Mich. and Gratiot was a hot spot for cruising. "We want to make it a signature event in Macomb County. It will showcase us as the automotive capital of the world. Thanks to the promoters for making this a reality," he added.

Charles Burns, General Manager of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, says that the Grand Prix is not just a race. In addition to racing, there is the car corral, Chevrolet vehicle displays, family fun zone, concerts and educational activities. "Youth is very important to us, so it is very important to educate youth to take over when we get older. The racetrack has been fixed. The Chevrolet Indy Dual in Detroit presented by Quicken Loans is on Saturday and Sunday. Five races at Belle Isle is coming up in 29 days. We are glad to have Chevrolet's partnership," says Burns.

IZOD IndyCar Series driver J.R. Hildebrand told everyone that one thing stands out here (at GM Heritage Center). "You see lineage, history and heritage throughout the years. Chevrolet is a big piece of what we are here today. A big reason that this is so relevant is direct injected turbo motors. It's gonna be a super challenging event with back-to-back races on Saturday and Sunday," the driver of the No. 4 Panther Racing Chevrolet added. They fixed the track this year but it is a true renovation of the track. With the installation of 230,000 square feet of new concrete for road improvements and other modifications creates a more exciting competition.

Brian Joseph, Chairman of Vehicle Selection for Concours d'Elegance, says they will have several classes of cars from pre-1905 cars, 1914 cars, 1928 cars and classic cars from the early classic era from 1925-1948. They will also feature Chrysler, Packard and Lincoln cars. "Also, we will have show cars built in Indianapolis such as the Deusenberg, Marmon and Stutz," he explained.

Joseph added: "It is important to see how automobiles have evolved in the past and going into the future. We will also have four prototypes from the Heritage Center. There will be 20 cars in this class. Muscle cars from 1967-1973 will also be featured. There will be a class of great race cars on display from the Vintage NASCAR class along with Jet age convertibles from the late 50's to early 60's. The 1963 Corvette split-rear window design will be there along with a small display of roadsters, coupes and racing cars. We will have car tours for everyone to participate in on pre-1970 cars."

Woodward Dream Cruise President Greg Rassel announced that at the Dream Cruise you get to meet people who actually work on these cars. "This is the largest free car show in the country. I am looking forward to seeing you at the great Woodward Dream Cruise," Rassel said.
