Bjorkolicious Bjork Rox The Fox!

With the Tigers holding the lead across the street and winning before finally prancing off the stage, Bjork bjorkoliciously delighted a well-nigh full house at the Fox on Tyr's day, also known as Tuesday. The Norse nymph nimbly negotiated through some of her best songs from her career, like "Pluto" and "Pagan Poetry," and also sang some cool tunes from her new CD like "Declare Independence" and "Wanderlust."

She wore a yellow and white dress that sported no swan head, not wanting Katie Couric and Bob Costas to have any new ammo like the assault they launched on her during her opening of the 2004 Olympics in Athens, when, in their vapid arrogance, they talked through her entire performance of a song she wrote for those very summer games, i.e., "Oceania."

The opening act was the Sri Lankan sensation M.I.A., whose music electrified the crowd to a techno-frenzy, aptly preparing us to be Bjorkified beyond belief.

Interestingly, M.I.A. mentioned that she is supposed to be on Letterman tonight, that is, Wednesday, but that her hit song has gunshots in it and Viacom/CBS wants her to take them out of the song. M.I.A. told us she is sticking to her artistic guns, and thus, no Dave for her. Shades of The Doors who never could be on Ed Sullivan again after Jim Morrison sang "Light My Fire" without changing "higher" to "wire" or "flier." Same theater. Same censorship. As Led Zeppelin might say, "The song remains the same!"

The gleeful crowd let both Bjork and M.I.A. know that we love uncompromised artists of the musical genre and we loved it when Bjork said the word, our word, "Detroit" with her endearingly Icelandic accent. We hope it will not be another 12 years before she comes back, and if you are bored tonight, check out Dave and see if M.I.A. is on. She rocked the house, too!

Update: M.I.A. will perform on the Late Show with David Letterman on Thursday, September 13th.
