SANDUSKY, Ohio
– It is two for the record books.
Beach balls were bouncing
and sunscreen was being smoothed onto arms, legs and noses as Cedar
Point set two new world records earlier today (Sunday, July 31)
during Guinness World Record Day held at the Sandusky, Ohio, amusement
park/resort.
During the first record-setting
event, 401 guests were able to bounce beach balls for 10 seconds
to establish a world record for most people bouncing beach balls
at the same time. This was a brand new category for Guinness World
Records.
Discount Drug Mart, Inc.
supplied the beach balls for the event.
Shortly afterward, 681
guests applied sunscreen to set a new world record for the most
people applying sunscreen at the same time. Sunscreen had to be
applied continuously for two minutes to qualify for the event. This
effort eclipsed the previous best of 675 set last month in Belgium.
Panama Jack donated the
packets of sunscreen for the participants.
The events were monitored
and certified by Philip Robertson, adjudicator for Guinness World
Records, based in New York City.
“It was a very
exciting morning,” Robertson said. “The turnout was
excellent and the participants were very enthusiastic. The events
were the embodiment of Guinness World Records: Ordinary people doing
extraordinary things.”
In addition to setting
two world records, the events also helped raise money for a good
cause. Participants could purchase discounted tickets to the park.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Northern Ohio Chapter
of the American Cancer Society.
