A
look at the 10th Annual Common Ground Music Festival in 2009. |
LANSING,
Mich. -- The 11th
Annual Common Ground Music Festival will take place from July 12
through 18 at Adado Riverfront Park in Lansing, Mich. This year's
headliners are Bret Michaels, Adam Lambert, Sammy Hagar, Alice Cooper,
Buckcherry, Ludacris and The Machine (performing Pink Floyd). Tickets
are $32 for each day or $11 on the last day. A special seven day
ticket is being offered for $99. There will be a special fireworks
show on the final day of the festival, July 18.
The
Common Ground Festival is unique in that it features mostly national
bands on two stages. It also features lots of food vendors, outdoor
activities for the kids and much more. The festival is located along
the banks of the Grand River in downtown Lansing. People from all
walks of life and ages will attend the festival. It is truly something
for everyone to enjoy and it only comes once a year.
For 2010,
the Common Ground Music Festival will revert to a split location.
The Captial Region International Airport stage will be on the west
side of Adado Riverfront Park while the Pearle Vision stage will
be on the ground of the new Market Place development near the new
Lansing City Market. Fans can access both stages via a short walk
down the east side of the Grand River. (Click
here for a printable version of the festival map).
Buckcherry
is a hard rock band from Los Angeles. The band released it's self-titled
debut album and its follow-up record, Time Bomb, in 2001.
The group split up in the summer of 2002. Three years later, lead
vocalist Josh Todd, guitarist Keith Nelson, Stevie D., Jimmy Ashhurst
and Xavier Muriel formed a new band with the same name. The two
released a new album titled 15 on April 16, 2006. Buckcherry's biggest
hits include "Crazy Bitch" and "Sorry." The
group released a fourth album, Black Butterfly, in September
2008 and will release another album, All Night Long, on
Aug. 3, 2010. They will perform on the Capital Region Stage on Monday,
July 12 at 9:30 p.m.
Adam
Lambert is a singer, songwriter and actor from San Diego. In May
2009, he finished second on the eighth season of FOX's American
Idol. He is known as the first openly gay mainstream pop artist
to launch a career on a major label in the United States. His debut
album, For Your Entertainment, was released in November 2009. Lambert
is known for the song "Whataya Want from Me," which became
his first top ten hit on the Billboard charts. This February, he
performed his first solo concert in Indio, Calif. Lambert will perform
on the Capital Region Stage on Tuesday, July 13 at 9:45 p.m.
Sammy
Hagar, known as "The Red Rocker," is a rock singer, guitarist,
composer and solo artist. He was the second of three singers for
the group Van Halen and the original singer of the rock band Montrose.
In 2007, Hagar was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
It is estimated that Hagar has sold 40 million copies of his 12
studio albums around the world. He is known for the No. 1 singles
"Give to Live" and "Little White Lie." Van Halen
released four No. 1 studio albums - 5150 (1986), OU812
(1988), For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge (1991) and Balance
(1995) when Hagar was a part of the group. He is currently the lead
singer of a hard rock band called Chickenfoot. Hagar will perform
on the Capital Region Stage on Wednesday, July 14 at 9 p.m.
Bret
Michaels is a singer, actor, director, screenwriter, producer and
reality television personality. He became famous as the lead vocalist
of the metal band Poison. Michaels has released several solo albums
and one single. He appeared on the VH1 reality show Rock of
Love with Bret Michaels and was a judge on Nashville Star.
Michaels won NBC's reality show Celebrity Apprentice 3.
He released a new album, Custom Built, on July 6. This
will be one of his first performances since a health scare in May
when he was reported to have "a hole in his heart." Earlier
this year, he released a duet with Miley Cyrus called "Nothing
to Lose." Michaels will perform on the Capital Region Stage
on Thursday, July 15 at 9 p.m.
Alice
Cooper is a rock singer, songwriter and broadcaster whose career
has spanned over 50 years. His concerts feature electric chairs,
fake blood, boa constrictors and baby dools. He broke onto the international
music stage with the 1971 hit "I'm Eighteen." Cooper is
known for the top five hits "Poision (Gold)" and "Bed
of Nails." In 2008, he released Along Came a Spider,
his 18th solo album. The Rolling Stone Album Guide called
Cooper the "most beloved heavy metal entertainer." He
made an appearance on the season finale of American Idol
and sang "School's Out." Cooper will perform on the Capital
Region Stage on Friday, July 16 at 9:25 p.m.
Ludacris
is a rapper and actor who was born on Sept. 11, 1977. He is the
co-founder of Disturbing tha Peace, an imprint label distributed
by Def Jam Recordings. Ludacris has won the Screen Actors Guild,
Critic's Choice, MTV, and Grammy Awards during his career. He has
released seven studio albums with the latest, Battle of the
Sexes, on March 9. Ludacris has appeared in films Crash,
Hustle & Flow, Fred Claus, Max Payne and Repo Men.
He has also appeared on television shows Law & Order: Special
Victims Unit and The Simpsons. Ludacris is known for
the No. 1 singles "Stand Up" and "Money Maker."
He will perform on the Capitol Region Stage on Saturday, July 17
at 9:30 p.m.
One difference
from last year's festival is that there will no country music performers
this year. Darius Rucker, Trailer Choir and Hunter Brucks performed
at the festival. Bret Michaels is on the line-up for this year,
but he is mostly known for his work in the metal group Poison.
Uncommon
Club Single-Day Tickets allow access to the members-only private

complimentary hors d'oeuvres (between 5:30 pm & 7:30 pm), reduced
