PARK, Mich. -- In
the year 2000, Evelyn Cairns and her son talked about having a
local car cruise downriver because this town is full of car people.
At that time, they contacted the local newspaper about their idea
and the rest is history. Fast forward to 2013 and thousands of
people came out to enjoy the cruise.
was on hand for the 14th Annual Cruisin' Downriver on Saturday,
June 29. The cruise was held on Fort Street through the cities
of Lincoln Park, Southgate and Wyandotte. The classic cars drove
from Southfield Road all the way to Pennsylvania Avenue.
of the cars that caught our eye included a '71 Ford Gran Torino
Sport, a '69 Chevrolet Chevelle, a '57 Chevrolet Nomad, a rusted
'48 Ford pickup, a '53 Buick, a '62 Ford Falcon, a '74 Chevrolet
Nova, and an Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight. The Just Hearse'n Around
car club from Hell, Mich. bought several of its hearses to the
cruise this year.
a lot of police patrol from all three cities trying to keep it
a safe event. No speeding, drag racing or laying rubber were allowed.
and I found a great spot near Goddard Road to park our chairs.
The cars were great and the weather was perfect. Some people set
up tents, brought snacks and coolers full of cold drinks. There
was also a hot dog stand to accommodate the hungry car enthusiasts.

are scheduled for July 27 and 28 at The Inn at St. John's in Plymouth,
