DETROIT
– Mayor Dave Bing this morning joined Detroit
Restaurant Week organizers and representatives from participating
restaurants for a news conference to announce details of the
inaugural dinner promotion that begins Friday, September 18
and runs through Sunday, September 27. The news conference was
hosted by Michael Symon’s Roast restaurant located inside
the Westin Book Cadillac Detroit.
Seventeen of downtown’s finest dining establishments are
participating in the inaugural Detroit Restaurant Week and Mayor
Bing believes the 10-evening, $27 fixed-price dinner promotion
is a great way to sample the eclectic restaurant options the
city has to offer while at the same time supporting Detroit
businesses.
“Detroit Restaurant Week highlights the many fine establishments
we have in our city -- where a plate can be found for every
palate,” said Mayor Bing. “As more people look to
spend their money locally, I welcome them to Detroit, and invite
them to discover the rich flavors and tastes we offer here,
not only during Detroit Restaurant Week, but every day.”

pairings to accompany the meal.
“Fine dining in downtown is always a treat – especially
when paired with such outstanding values at Detroit’s
very top tier restaurants,” said Ann Lang, President &
CEO of the Downtown Detroit Partnership. “We’re
hearing nothing but enthusiasm for this first Detroit Restaurant
Week, and we hope to see it become a regular tradition in the
Downtown, Midtown, Corktown, New Center and Eastern Market districts.”
Jason Huvaere, Producer of Detroit Restaurant Week, said restaurant
week promotions in other major cities across the country have
brought customers back again and again -- even after the promotion
has ended. And based on early feedback from participating restaurants
and the local community, Detroit’s restaurant week is
expected to be just as popular as those in Philadelphia, New
York, Baltimore and Washington D.C.
“We are home to some of the best dining establishments
in the country and this region will welcome this type of dinner
promotion,” said Huvaere. “Over the course of the
last three months, we’ve been promoting Detroit Restaurant
Week at events throughout the region, and we’ve received
a very positive response from everyone we’ve engaged.
“And based on preliminary reports from the participating
restaurants, reservations are strong, which means that our community
is truly embracing the Detroit Restaurant Week concept.”
Reservations are not required, but are very strongly encouraged.
Individuals or groups can make reservations by visiting the
“Restaurant” page on www.DetroitRestaurantWeek.com.
The menus for each restaurant can be found on the “Restaurant”
