FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – The Sinai Guild will welcome noted physician, author and medical expert Dr. Mehmet Oz at its “Women in Philanthropy Women’s Heart Health Benefit,” Tuesday, October 13 at Congregation Shaarey Zedek (27375 Bell Road, Southfield). Registration begins at 11:15 a.m., followed by Dr. Oz’s remarks at noon. A luncheon will follow.

Dr. Oz is the author of “YOU: Staying Young,” and the award winning book, “Healing from the Heart.” He is Professor of Cardiac Surgery at Columbia University and a founder of the Complementary Medicine Program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, as well as the Founder and Chairman of Health Corps Research. Dr. Oz also is known for his guest appearances on The Oprah Winfrey Show and Discovery Health. His own syndicated television program, “Dr. Oz,” will premiere in September 2009 on WDIV-TV.

Funds raised from this biennial event will facilitate the purchase of a portable, Advanced Duplex Ultrasound with Vascular Reactivity Assessment for Detroit Medical Center hospitals. The ultrasound will provide the ability to assess novel indices of cardiovascular function as prognosticators of future cardiovascular morbidity and mortality.

“Women in Philanthropy is an important example of The Sinai Guild’s philanthropic outreach,” said Rusty Rosman, president of The Sinai Guild. “Since the first event in 1995, we have highlighted the ability and responsibility of women in our community to provide philanthropic support for medical treatment and research. We are thrilled that Dr. Oz will be joining us to help make that a possibility this year.”

Tickets to the speech and luncheon are $100 per person. Tickets may be purchased on The Sinai Guild’s web site, www.thesinaiguild.org, or by calling (248) 538-6501.

The Sinai Guild was created in 1952 as a women’s auxiliary to Sinai Hospital in Detroit. Today, it is an organization focused on development, grant giving and research studies. The Guild funds supplies, equipment and research within the medical field.
