BATTLE
CREEK, Mich. -- The
Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi (NHBP), owners of the
FireKeepers Casino, will hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday,
May 2 at 10 a.m. The Battle Creek, Mich. property will be adding
a hotel, event center and expanded bingo area. Members of the NHBP
tribal council, State Sen. Mike Nofs, FireKeepers management and
other local dignitaries are all expected to attend. The groundbreaking
comes one year and nine months after FireKeepers opened its doors
for the first time on Aug. 5, 2009. The on-site hotel is expected
to be completed by the summer of 2012.
In the past,
FireKeepers never offered hotel accommodations. Instead, it partnered
with local hotels and motels to get great rates for its rewards
members.
The new
Las Vegas-style casino is 23 miles from Kalamazoo, 60 miles from
Lansing, 75 miles from Grand Rapids, 82 miles from Ann Arbor, 109
miles from Fort Wayne, Ind., 123 miles from Detroit and 164 miles
from Chicago.
Five restaurants
are located within the new casino. Aurora Lounge is an intimate,
escape from the casino floor with white stone walls, warm wood tones
and a green fireplace. It is suitable for a glass of wine and a
private game of video poker. Nibi, which translates to "rolling
water," is an upscale dining option with the image of rain
falling from the sky. Guests can enjoy appetizers, salads, seafood
and desserts at Nibi. The Mijem Buffet, which translates to "food,"
is a 300-seat buffet with a large variety of hot and cold favorites,
breads, meats, seafood, Asian, Italian and American cuisine. Cafe
24/7 is a 150-seat restaurant that offers turkey sandwiches, macaroni
and cheese, New York deli sandwiches, soups and pies.
