DETROIT -- When we arrived, we went up to the 16th Floor to preview five of the apartments from a one-bedroom to a huge two-bedroom suite. In each of the apartments, they had food. In one, they had appetizers. From cheese and crackers to vegetables and dip and a corned beef pastry. In another, they had pasta with fresh vegetables, shrimp, chicken and sauces and fresh hot bread. Another room featured beef cut to order along with turkey sliced to order for sandwiches. In another they had drinks, three different kinds of martinis. Also in one apartment, they had a live band.

One and two bedroom apartments range from 939 square feet to 1,848 square feet. All apartments feature designer cabinetry and lighting, granite countertops, wall-to-wall carpeting, washer and dryer, stainless steel appliances, private elevator for residents and custom windows. By the way, the views are fabulous. You can see the Ambassador Bridge, Detroit River and Joe Louis Arena from one side.

This building was originally designed by Albert Kahn, a renowned architect. This is Detroit's first and only hotel/apartment residence.
All residents had access to the Doubletree Hotel including the fitness center, wake-up calls, dry cleaning, catering, concierge, doormen, valet parking, room service and housekeeping. Inside the lobby is the Finn & Porter Restaurant which features upscale dining with contemporary decor with a martini lounge. Across the hall is the Sushi & Round Bar. As you walk into the lobby there is a Bearclaw Coffee Cafe.

The Doubletree Hotel and the Fort Shelby Tower Apartments are located at 527 W. Lafayette Blvd. between First Street and Third Street. It is conveniently located in the heart of Downtown Detroit and near many attractions including Hart Plaza, GM Renaissance Center, Comerica Park, Ford Field, Fox Theatre, Greektown, Cobo Hall, Campus Martius and Joe Louis Arena. Nearby is the People Mover, main post office, grocery stores, hospitals, Greyhound and Amtrak stations.

Then we proceeded down to the 2nd Floor to the Crystal Ballroom where we had desserts and pastries. After that, we entered the Ballroom for the Spring Fling Fashion Show presented by Ambassador Magazine. Guests previewed the latest Spring fashions from some of Detroit's finest clothiers including Grant Clothier, Paulina BH and Geftaki Swimwear.
