HOWELL, Mich. -- The 2013 Michigan Challenge Balloonfest--also known as the Howell Balloonfest--is in its 29th year providing fun and entertainment for the whole family. The event was held last weekend, June 28-30. The Wade carnival was huge. Some of the rides were very interesting such as the macaroni and cheese ride. There were a lot of the rides I've never seen before. There was also a midway filled with test-your-luck games in which you could win prizes.

We talked to people who came from Connecticut and New York just to see the launch today. In addition, I noticed people from all over the metro Detroit area came here today.

There was plenty of entertainment at the Balloonfest. There was the walking human treeman which entertained the guests. There was also an arts and crafts section and a huge food court serving everything from barbecued food to wood fired pizza. Smoothies, lemonade and plenty of water were also on hand.

I enjoyed the skydiving show where three men jumped out of an airplane and slowly glided onto the x-marked field below.

About 6 p.m., people were settling down and getting ready for the launch of the hot air balloons. The trucks arrived with the hot air balloon baskets. Shortly after 6 p.m., they announced that the launch would be delayed until 7:45 p.m. due to breezy conditions.

So we waited until 7:45 and at that time, they announced the launch would be cancelled due to wind gusts which makes it unsafe to fly. Oh no!! I was disappointed that I couldn't see the launch......but there is always next year.
