There's only one more weekend left to go skating at Detroit's Campus Martius Park.

DETROIT --This is the last weekend of the season to hit the ice at Campus Martius Park’s Rink. The Rink closes March 5 after a record-breaking Winter Magic season that drew more than 250,000 visitors to the award-winning Campus Martius Park, some 50,000 of whom skated at the Rink.

“This was by far our most successful skating season in the eight years the Rink at Campus Martius Park has been open,” said Robert Gregory, president of the Detroit 300 Conservancy, the nonprofit that manages CMP. “Thanks to the increasing popularity of the park and the mild winter temperatures, we were at capacity at the Rink many weekend nights.”

Rink attendance was up some 10 percent this season, Gregory said. The Rink was particularly popular during signature park events—the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, Christmas Wonderfest, America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, New Year’s Eve D-Drop and Winter Blast.

"The Park has become a regional destination throughout the year because there’s always something to enjoy here,” Gregory added. “The Rink has been a great amenity for the city as it gives people of all ages a reason to get out in the winter and have fun the park.”

As a proud sponsor of the park, T-Mobile is offering a limited number of customers free admission to skate at Campus Martius this weekend. The first 150 T-Mobile customers who show their T-Mobile phones at the Campus Martius skate house ticket counter this weekend will enjoy the last skate of the season compliments of T-Mobile. (One free skate pass per phone and skate rental is extra.)

The Rink is open Friday, (11 AM to midnight), Saturday (10 AM to 11 PM) and Sunday (Noon to 8 PM). General admission is $7 for adults 13-49, $6 for children 12 and under and $6 for seniors 50 and older.

The Conservancy is affiliated with the Downtown Detroit Partnership. The nationally recognized Campus Martius Park is the recent recipient of The 2010 Urban Land Institute’s Amanda Burden Open Space Award. Program Planning for the Park was by Project for Public Spaces and the Park’s designer was Rundell Ernstberger Associates, LLC.
