New
country artist Lee Brice
AUBURN
HILLS, Mich. -- Lee
Brice was born in 1980 in Sumter, South Carolina. He learned how
to play the piano, sing in church and write his own songs as a child.
Brice won three talent contests at his high school. He attended
Clemson University on a football scholarship then changed directions
to pursue a country music career. He is best known for the single
"She Ain't Right."
"I
have been writing and singing since 10," Brice explained. "It
was the first time I got in front of a big crowd. I went onto a
district contest. I hurt my elbow playing football. They fixed it."
The
country music singer is also an accomplished songwriter. He has
written songs for artists such as Garth Brooks, Jason Aldean and
Adam Gregory, among others. Which do you enjoy more -- writing or
performing?
"I
wrote those so I could perform them," Brice responded. "It's
also another thing to get up on stage. Both have ups and downs."
The
country music singer was in the studio when our phone interview
took place. After having five singles on the charts, Brice is set
to release his debut album in June.
"The
next single will be 'Beautiful Everytime,'" he said. "The
title track is really a gospel and rock and roll song. A couple
of ballads on there. It's my first album. I spent a couple of years
on it. I wrote everything on the record except two songs."
What's the
story behind your current single "Love Like Crazy"?
"It
made me think of my grandparents," Brice explained. "I
just had to record it."
Brice
will perform at the new Toby Keith restaurant tomorrow at the Great
Lakes Crossing shopping center in Auburn Hills, Mich.
"It's
going to be a roller coaster ride," he said. "We're going
to go up and go down. It's a big restaurant/bar. It's fun and loud
but it can be rowdy or intimate."
The
country music singer performed at Detroit's Downtown Hoedown in
2008.
"That
was fun," he said. "It was when I was first getting started
on the road. An exciting time."
Brice
said he might be returning to the hoedown this year. "I think
I may be possibly," the country music singer said. "They
keep talking about it."
