DETROIT -- 'Legally Blonde: The Musical' made its debut in Detroit at the Fisher Theatre. It runs from October 15 thru November 1. The play begins with the chihuahua, Bruiser, comes running across the stage to greet Elle.

Elle Woods (played by Becky Gulsvig) and boyfriend, Warner (played by Jeff McLean), are at a romantic dinner with champagne at a nice restaurant and she is expecting a proposal. However, much to her dismay, Warner dumps her and decides to go to Harvard University to study law.

Elle is devastated and finally decides to go to law school as well. She is dressed in pink and no one takes her serious. So she has to prove to the staff at Harvard why she should be admitted. She says she is going "in the name of love." Because her boyfriend was going there. The staff finally decides to admit her.

She arrives on campus with her dog, Bruiser. The other students tell her dogs are not allowed in class. "Okay", she says. "I'll drop him off in my dorm room because Bruiser likes Days of Our Lives."

She finally meets up with Warner in class and he introduces her to his new girlfriend, Vivienne (played by Megan Lewis). She is shocked again. Elle wants to dye her hair brunette, since Vivienne's hair is brunette and she might still have a chance with Warner. Well that never happens. She gets talked out of it by the hair stylist at the salon.

At the salon she meets Vivienne again. Vivienne then invites her to a party. She tells her it is a costume party.

Elle arrives at the party wearing a Playboy bunny outfit, only to find out that it is not a costume party after all. Everyone gets a giggle and she is totally embarrassed.

Classes go along and Elle is unprepared and looks like a fool. Then she meets another student, Emmett (played by D.B. Bonds), and he told her to buckle down. They study together. She then takes her classes seriously and applies for an internship with a law firm.

Warner eventually proposes to Vivienne, and she is devastated again, but Elle gets the internship. With her unusual logic, she tries cases and wins. In the end, she graduates. Warner gets dumped by Vivienne and proposes to Elle. To see what happens next, you have to see the Musical.

The music and dancing was fabulous. The character, Elle Woods, played by Becky Gulsvig, reminded me of Reese Witherspoon as she looked just like her. The storyline was very upbeat and kept your interest. There are two acts and one 15-minute intermission. The Musical lasted two and a half hours. I would definitely recommend everyone see 'Legally Blonde The Musical.'

Overall Rating: A
